2019 Library Reading Month


In Commemorating the World Book Day of 23rd April, XJTLU library held the “2019 XJTLU Library Reading Month”. The theme of this year’s reading month is “Love Reading, Love Life”. There are three parts in the reading months, including online events, offline events and training courses.

A wide variety of activities has attracted the many readers to participate. One of the online activities was carried out in WeChat, where the libraries recommend a book each week and readers are welcome to release their comments. Offline activities include Poster Display which involves introducing the origin and development of World Book and Copyright Day, as well as the DIY Bookmarks. The training classrooms have always being packed with training courses in assisting readers to improve their personal skills.

The library hopes that this month’s reading activities can provide participants with joy in reading and beauty of life, as well as with lessons to improve their knowledge and skills.



Adobe Illustrator (AI) Advance Training Course


An “Adobe Illustrator (AI)” Advance Training Course was held by Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Library for two days from 16th April to 23rd April. The training course was conducted in computer room 455. The two-day course is divided into two stages: 1) Advance AI Design I ---- Memphis Geometric Poster Design, and 2) Advance AI Design II ---- 2.5D illustration scene design. This time the class was conducted by Xu Yuanyuan, a Year 2 XJTLU student. She has a lot of experience on designing vector graphics and her engaging technical demonstration has received good feedbacks from participants.

“Practice Is Better Than Theory”. So, in the second half of the course, Xu Yuanyuan, the student instructor gave demonstrations and instructions on how to make Memphis geometric posters and create 2.5D illustration scene while the participants listen and practice. Many interested participants asked questions to the student instructor to improving their theoretical knowledge and technical skills. This course was conducted due to popular demand for AI skills and students’ enthusiasm for learning.



The 25th “Living Library” was a Success!


On May 8th 2019, the 25th Living Library was held at XJTLU Museum, on the 1st floor of Central Building. This time XJTLU Library presented 8 inspirational people as the “living books” to share their fascinating stories and valuable advices to the readers. With gratitude, this activity thrived to attract 137 participants who were glorified to receive life lessons based on their interest. These listeners were involved in direct conversation with the living books to eliminate self-doubt and confusion.

This living library concept is designed to create a constructive personal dialogues between participants and the speakers. This is an essential opportunity for students to gain intercultural learning experiences and personal developments through face-to-face sharing and consulting session. On the next occasion, the library will continue to strive in inviting living books with extraordinary experiences to share from among circles of students, alumni, teachers and successful individuals.



Library Student Committee Meeting held on 15th May 2019


The Library Student Committee Meeting was held at Room 153 on 15th May 2019. 11 Student Representatives and library staff members engaged in constructive dialogue and feedback on the improvements of library space and service this academic year. In the meeting, the time setting of temporary leaving in Seat Booking System was decided. The notice of Display, Claim and Disposal of Unclaimed Items in the Library was agreed by the representatives, and no objection. They work actively together to find solutions to any problems encountered.

Library Student Committee Meeting has a purely communicational and advisory function, providing an official forum for students to discuss current issues relating to the Library polices and services at XJTLU. It is responsible for keeping the students informed of major issues and for creating opportunities for the students to discuss priorities.



The Green Plant Adoption Activity has Gained Success


The fifth green plant adoption activity has just recently be completed. Together with the participating students, XJTLU Library prepared 40 pots of several plant species to be preserved and maintained. Along the course of activity, students have shown great enthusiasms and commitments in taking care of the plants. In the purpose of rewarding students’ works and efforts, the library distributed variety of souvenirs at the end of this event.

With the sequence of events provided, students have felt comforted by the content of this activity amid their busy schedule. The activity aims to help connect students to the benefits of plants and foster environmental stewardship. This project also supports in keeping a green environment around the library area.


Examination Serial Activity


June 2019 was a tense month for XJTLU students due to the final examination. XJTLU Library prepared motivational and consoling activities to help students deal with their study pressures.

First, the library prepared free breakfast on 6th floor dining area such as coffee, tea, bread and cereal, during the examination period. Second, the library also prepared stimulating games in Room 153 involving Rubik’s cube, puzzles, coloring, etc. Third, the library spread out 100 Get-Lucky ticket for students who find it to exchange with an energy supplement.

This serial activity was prepared with the aim of reducing stress within students and act as encouragements to their study efforts. The services also display XJTLU Library customer-focused service concept in creating a civilized campus atmosphere for learners.
